At Pacific Science Center we rely on volunteers and interns to help fulfil our mission to inspire lifelong science learning while providing vital assistance in all areas of Pacific Science Center operations. Whether you're interested in hands-on interaction with exhibits and guests, or something behind the scenes, we have opportunities for you. Internships are offered on a rolling basis throughout the year in a variety of departments. Internships are an exciting way for current college and graduate students to gain real-world skills.

Discovery Corps is a youth development program that puts young people on the front line of Pacific Science Center's mission to inspire a lifelong interest in science, math and technology.

Science Interpretation Program Volunteer (Adult Program)
Science Interpretation Program volunteers play pivotal roles for our guests and staff by providing superior customer service, operational assistance, school group support, and skilled science interpretation. Through this key role, volunteers help ensure guests are impacted by our mission. After volunteering for 6-months, Science Interpretation Program volunteers may be invited to volunteer in other capacities – including high level science interpretation delivery, program and content development, or advanced operational support.
Special Event Volunteer (Adult Program)
Special Event volunteers play a vital role in executing these events. Volunteer's roles vary and may include welcoming guests, setting-up tables and chairs, checking-in guests, manning information tables and more! Hours vary, but primarily take place during weekends and evenings. This is the perfect opportunity for anyone interested in contributing to our dynamic events.
On-Call Evaluation Assistant Volunteer (Adult Program)
Pacific Science Center's Evaluation department is looking for enthusiastic self-starters. This is a volunteer opportunity to work with a small team to collect and process data for a variety of Science Center programs and initiatives. The Evaluation department aims to accurately collect and reflect the voices of our guests and stakeholders. Evaluation guides planning, enables decision-making, and strengthens programing. The volunteer will contribute to this important effort.
Maker Space Volunteer (Adult Program)
Do you love making things, tinkering with objects, building with mechanical parts, or experimenting with electronics? How about sharing your passion for making things with others? Pacific Science Center seeks creative volunteers to assist inside our new Maker Space. This prototype Maker Space is named Tinker Tank. Tinker Tank aims to inspire visitors of all ages to make - using their hands, provided tools, and imaginations! Maker Space Facilitator Volunteers will test new experiential open-ended maker activities with the public inside Tinker Tank.

Collections Internship (Unpaid)
Since 1962, Pacific Science Center has accomplished many wonderful things and accumulated numerous archival items. The archive includes fifty years of board meeting minutes, Seattle World's Fair materials, photographs, and more. A Collections Intern is needed to assist with the ongoing organization of Pacific Science Center's paper and photo archives. The Intern will inventory, catalogue, and re-house items within the archive. A detail-oriented individual with a background in collections management, museum studies, library sciences, and/or archives is an ideal candidate for this internship.

What do Pacific Science Center volunteers do?
All of our volunteers are an important part of the Pacific Science Center team and contribute to our mission. Volunteering at Pacific Science Center is a fun way to share your passion for inspirational science learning. Each volunteer position is unique whether behind the scenes, hands-on, or interacting with visitors and exhibits.
Who can volunteer at Pacific Science Center?
All applicants must meet the volunteer position's individual requirements and complete the necessary application, pass a background and reference check, and be available to attend orientation. Volunteers must have no history of abuse or neglect against a child.
Are there age restrictions for volunteering?
Our adult volunteers must be at least 18 years of age. Teen volunteers must be at least 14 years of age. Each individual volunteer position has specific age requirements.
What are your internship program requirements?
Internships are offered on a rolling basis throughout the year. Internships have been offered in Accounting, Development, Human Resources, Marketing & Special Events, Information Services, Science Education and more. Internships are project-based and offered to current college and graduate students. Interning at Pacific Science Center is an exciting way to expand your professional skills, network with professionals, receive school credit and of course attain real-world experience. What is the application process for volunteers?
Once we receive your application, we will determine if your skills and availability match our current volunteer position needs. Qualified applicants will be invited to either an individual or group volunteer interview. Individuals invited to join the volunteer team will also complete a reference and background check. Once complete, volunteers are then invited to orientation and position training.
How much time does volunteering take?
The length and time commitment of each volunteer position varies. In general, we ask that volunteers commit to at least 2-monthly regularly scheduled volunteer shifts for 6 months. Some exceptions include positions which are seasonal, temporary, or offered on particular dates and times.

What experience or education do I need to volunteer?
Qualifications for each volunteer position vary. Orientation and training are provided to help volunteers learn the necessary volunteer position skills.
Do you offer one time or short term volunteer positions?
Most of our adult and teen volunteer positions are long term. Occasionally, special event volunteer opportunities may be offered and will be posted on our website.
Do you offer group volunteer opportunities?
If given enough notice, we can typically accommodate volunteer groups of 20 individuals or less. Group volunteer opportunities have included gardening, cleaning exhibit spaces, inventorying our educational materials, painting and more!
Are there opportunities for skill-based/pro-bono volunteers?
We welcome individuals or groups who would enjoy lending their professional expertise to Pacific Science Center. Past skill-based volunteers have offered graphic design projects, legal expertise, professional photography and more!
What are the benefits of volunteering at Pacific Science Center?
Volunteers not only receive the benefit of science learning and inspiration. Pacific Science Center volunteers have access to current and new exhibits, events, and more. Not to mention lots of fun!
