Volunteer With Pacific Science Center
At Pacific Science Center, we rely on volunteers to help fulfill our mission. Volunteers provide vital assistance in all areas of Pacific Science Center operations, while ensuring that our programs reflect the diversity of our community. Whether you're interested in the Salt Water Tide Pool, the Tropical Butterfly House, Mercer Slough, or something behind the scenes, such as Office Assistant or interning, we have opportunities for you. We also have programs available just for teens.
We provide all training necessary. If you're looking to share your time and area of expertise while giving back to your community, we'd love to hear from you.
Current Teen Volunteer Opportunities
Mercer Slough Teen Volunteer Opportunities (Teen Program- Bellevue, WA)
We offer many opportunities for teens. All these programs satisfy service learning hours and are a great enhancement to a college or work resume. So, whether you are looking for a short summer experience or a year-long program, we have an outdoor learning opportunity for you.
Discovery Corps Program (Teen Program with volunteer and paid positions)
Discovery Corps is a youth development program that puts young people on the front line of Pacific Science Center's mission to inspire a lifelong interest in science, math and technology.
Current Adult Volunteer Opportunities
Maker Space Volunteer (Adult Program)
Do you love making things, tinkering with objects, building with mechanical parts, or experimenting with electronics? How about sharing your passion for making things with others? Pacific Science Center seeks creative volunteers to assist inside a brand-new Maker Space. This prototype Maker Space is named The Lab. The Lab aims to inspire visitors of all ages to make - using their hands, provided tools, and imaginations! Maker Space Facilitator Volunteers will test new experiential open-ended maker activities with the public inside The Lab.
Butterfly House Horticulture Volunteer (Adult Program)
The Tropical Butterfly House opened in 1997, and has been visited by over one million people, yet no two experiences are quite the same. Our goal is that every visitor's experience is positive. Butterfly House Volunteers will assist with on-going cleaning, pruning, and butterfly window care, amongst other projects to ensure visitors continue to enjoy their visit to the Butterfly House.
Science Interpreter Volunteer (Adult Program)
Science Interpreter Volunteers help bring our exhibits to life for our guests. Volunteers receive all the necessary training to interpret at our salt water tide-pool, and help our butterfly house among other exhibit stations. We also have small locations on the floor where volunteers are able to engage our visitors and show them a brief, but fun and educational science activity. Energetic, outgoing and creative people with an interest or background in science or education are well suited to this position.
Current Internship Opportunities
Evaluation Intern – Wellbody Academy (Unpaid)
Pacific Science Center seeks to understand if and to what extent visitors' experience in the Wellbody Academy exhibit affects their attitudes and behaviors regarding health and wellness. After protocol development, the intern will intercept and survey exhibit visitors in the autumn and then follow up with them periodically in the winter and early spring. At the internship's conclusion, the intern should have gained valuable evaluation and audience research skills, as well as strengthened their resume/portfolio.
HR Recruitment Intern (Unpaid)
Pacific Science Center's Human Resources Department has an exciting internship opportunity for a student pursuing a Human Resources career. The HR Recruitment Intern will play an integral role in the recruitment cycle for incoming summer camp staff including: interview facilitation, training support, reference and background checks, payroll input, paperwork review, and more. Initially, the intern will focus on learning Taleo, our recruitment software as well as the recruitment process. Spring quarter will build upon this knowledge and expand to focus on screening, selection and onboarding. At the internship's conclusion, the intern will have gained valuable HR recruitment and software administration skills that can be applied to future work settings.
