Wellbody Blog

At Professor Wellbody's Academy of Health & Wellness, we understand there's only one thing harder than making healthy behavior changes: Sticking to them! We all need a little help from our friends, and that's the purpose of the Wellbody Blog, a friendly online gathering spot--a community well--where you can dip into health news; wellness tips; recipes; latest research about nutrition, exercise, sleep and hygiene; plus, real stories from virtual neighbors who are also trying to change their lives for the better. Start from wherever you are; share ideas, information, inspiration. At Pacific Science Center, we believe each of us can do something everyday to improve our health and well-being.

Spring Into Spring With A Mini-Resolution

For many of us, New Year's resolutions dive by mid-February.

But no worries! Spring is the perfect season to start anew.

Try again . . . and this time, pick one, small, realistic, short-range goal suggests the American Psychological Association.

Jump start your healthy behavior change by joining our Spring Mini-Resolution Challenge. Starting this week, pick a small, achievable health- or wellness-related goal, work on it for a week and share your progress with us by posting on Facebook with hashtag #wellbodygoal or by emailing discover@pacsci.org.

We’ll share your stories and photos and pick one person every Thursday for three weeks to win a pair of passes to Pacific Science Center’s permanent exhibits. On the fourth Thursday, we’ll sift through all the entries from the month and choose a Grand Prize Winner to receive a year-long family membership to Pacific Science Center.

delta-dental-tooth-fairy-0194 with LogoMove over, Cupid! It’s time to celebrate our favorite winged friend—the Tooth Fairy. February 28 is National Tooth Fairy Day and we can’t help but smile. She has a very important job. Collecting lost baby teeth is a never-ending task. More than 109 million teeth are lost each year in the US alone. That’s a lot of little chompers!

It’s even more impressive when you think about all the kids who lose teeth. There are roughly 1.9 billion children in the world and they’ll each lose 20 baby teeth by the time they’re 12. That’s 38 billion teeth that’ll need to be collected. It’s a huge task.

We asked the Tooth Fairy how she collects all of those teeth. We were surprised to learn she gets a little help. That’s right! The Tooth Fairy has many friends around the world who help her collect teeth. Keep reading for a look at tooth traditions in countries where her friends visit:
