Chris Jordan:
Running The Numbers
It Changes The Way You View The World
Art +
Science at Pacific Science Center
Oct. 3, 2009 - Jan. 3, 2010
Two million
plastic beverage bottles are used in the United
States every five minutes. 106,000 aluminum
cans are used in the U.S. every thirty seconds.
1.4 million brown paper bags are used in the
U.S. every hour. In this thought-provoking and
compelling exhibit, Ballard-based photographer
Chris Jordan puts the startling statistics of
consumerism into large-scale images that will
change the way you view the world. Stand back
and admire them for their beauty. Then move
closer and a whole new picture emerges.
Chris Jordan's been called the "it" artist for the green movement. His "photographic project offers a rare and unique opportunity to have a conversation about important subject matter that cuts through art-world boundaries into the environmental and social sciences," says Chris Bruce, Director of the Museum of Art/WSU.
Embedded below is a video of Chris Jordan speaking at the prestigious TED conference.
