Birthdays at Pacific Science Center

Celebrate Your Birthday with Us!

Every weekend, Pacific Science Center hosts birthday parties for kids of all ages. The celebration includes a private party room complete with decorations, cake and hands-on activities that match your party theme.

Pacific Science Center staff will dazzle your guests with a Super Science Show and interactive activities, followed by a liquid nitrogen ice cream demonstration that creates ice cream right before your eyes! Enjoy the second hour with your guests in the party room. When the festivities are over, your party can spend the rest of the day exploring our exhibits.

Note: Parties must be scheduled at least two weeks in advance of your desired date.

Party Packages & Pricing

Package 1 (un-themed party) includes:

  • 2-hour use of an undecorated birthday party room - Feel free to bring your own decorations, but please do not bring balloons or confetti.
  • Welcome signage at the entrance of the Seattle Rotary Discovery Labs
  • General admission for all party guests to Pacific Science Center
  • E-invitations for you to send to your guests - In an effort to "be green," we no longer offer paper invitations.


  • $155 for Pacific Science Center Members (covers first 20 people, including adults)
  • $175 for non-Members (covers first 15 people, including adults)

Additional guests ages 3 and up (including adults) may be added for $7 per person. Maximum occupancy of party rooms is 35 people.

Package 2 (themed party) includes everything in Package 1, PLUS:


  • $285 for Pacific Science Center Members (covers first 20 people, including adults)
  • $305 for non-Members (covers first 15 people, including adults)

Choose one of the following themes for your birthday party:


Design and build your own rocket, then you are cleared for takeoff! Launch your rocket into space and explore our solar system's stars and constellations by creating your very own star map to take home. After that you will come back down to Earth to enjoy delicious ice cream made from some of the coldest stuff on the planet: liquid nitrogen! Finish your day at a Science On a Sphere show to see real time data sets of planet Earth and beyond.

Bugs & Butterflies

Become an entomologist and explore the world of butterflies and our other six-legged friends! Learn about the life cycle and bodies of insects, design your own butterfly to keep and touch a live Madagascar Hissing Cockroach. Afterwards we'll make enough liquid nitrogen ice cream to feed a swarm! When your party is over, venture to the Tropical Butterfly House and see live butterflies flutter all around you!

Venture to prehistoric times and become a paleontologist as we uncover fossils from the past! Discover how fossils are made and how many different types there are. Go on your own fossil dig and assemble a dinosaur skeleton, then create a shark tooth necklace or dinosaur egg to take home. Lastly, dig into a bowl of liquid nitrogen ice cream! After your party, head into Building 1 to see the exhibit Dinosaurs: A Journey Through Time, where what you just learned comes to life!

Spa Lab

Discover how to make every day at home a spa experience with a birthday party in Pacific Science Center’s Spa Lab. Create your own bath fizz while investigating the chemical reactions that makes it fizz, froth and foam. Conduct an illuminating experiment with our very own glow germs that highlight the amazing powers of hand washing and soap. Complete your special day with cool and creamy liquid nitrogen ice cream and a trip to Professor Wellbody's Academy of Health & Wellness to discover more healthy relaxation techniques.

Spy Academy

Investigate the undercover world of espionage when you receive a secret mission from Pacific Science Center Headquarters. Create an agent identity, assemble a message decoder and use your powers of deduction to decipher the code. Use spy techniques and tools including UV light and chemical reactions to reveal secret clues hidden in plain sight. Once you complete the mission, you will earn your badge in covert communications and celebrate with a scoop of liquid nitrogen ice cream!

Weird Science

Marvel as one of our expert science demonstrators gives you a private window into the world of physical science! Put your brain to the test with a plexer challenge, climb inside an electrostatic field, and make your own "atomic" glow-in-the-dark gak to take home. Then experience the chilling effects of 320 degrees below zero Liquid Nitrogen as we make instant ice cream right before your eyes! Wrap up the day by discovering the many functions of the human body in the Body Works exhibit!

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do birthday parties take place?

Birthday party rooms are located in the Seattle Rotary Discovery Labs on 2nd Ave. N and John St. Maps and directions will be provided upon booking.

What are the age recommendations for birthday parties?

Themed parties include activities appropriate for ages 3 and up. Un-themed parties (Package 1) are appropriate for all ages.

What cakes are available?

Cakes are decorated to your child's chosen party theme you select and are available in white, chocolate or a layer of each, with white or chocolate frosting.

When are birthday parties available?

Birthday parties are available on Saturdays and Sundays. All time slots are subject to availability. We offer three time slots for birthday parties:

  • 10 a.m. - noon
  • 12:30 - 2:30 p.m.
  • 3 - 5 p.m.

How far in advance do I need to book a party?

All parties are booked on a first-come, first-served basis. We require a minimum of two weeks notice.

When is payment due?

The full price of your party is due upon booking. Additional guests and food order charges will be applied the week following the party.

What is your cancellation policy?

Packages are non-refundable. However, you can change your party date at no cost up to five business days prior to the original date. If you must reschedule your party within five business days, a $100 re-booking fee will apply.

What age counts toward the total number of guests?

Adults and children ages 3 and up count towards your total number of guests. Additional guests over your original group total are welcome at $7 per person. Children under 3 are free.

What is the maximum number of guests in a single room?

The capacity of party rooms is 35 people (includes adults and children ages 3 and up). If you believe you will exceed this, or would like to have a larger party, you can book a double party room. Please inquire when you book your party.

When is attendance count due?

Our staff will conduct a head count at a point during your party, so no guest list is necessary. Additional guests (adults and children ages 3 and up) are welcome at an additional $7 per person. Each party room has a capacity of 35 people; if you would like to have a larger party, please inquire about a double party room when you book.

Can we bring balloons?

Due to the sensitive nature of our fire alarm system, helium balloons are not permitted in the buildings. We also do not allow confetti or piñatas.

Are outside vendors allowed, such as magicians?

All outside vendors must be pre-approved a minimum of one week prior to your party. Plan to have vendors provide insurance and references when you call to book your party.

Is storage available?

Storage is not available in the birthday party area before or after your party. We do offer lockers for rent in Buildings 1 and 3 at a small charge. Pacific Science Center staff are not responsible for monitoring personal items.

What is the structure of a themed (Package 2) party?

A 40-minute Super Science Show will be performed by Pacific Science Center staff 10 minutes after the party start time. Immediately following we will perform a 20-minute liquid nitrogen ice cream demonstration. The remainder of the party is not supervised by our staff, so you may continue the party and serve cake and ice cream at your convenience.

What staff does Pacific Science Center provide?

  • Package 1 (un-themed party) includes a birthday party assistant in the lobby of the Seattle Rotary Discovery Labs to greet and direct guests to the room.
  • Package 2 (themed party) includes a birthday party assistant who will greet and direct you and your guests to your room, as well as an education presenter who will conduct a 40-minute Super Science Show and 20-minute liquid nitrogen ice cream demonstration.

As a Pacific Science Center Member, do I get a discount if my guests are also Members?

Your Membership benefits have already been applied to your party package when you book your party. If any of your guests are also Pacific Science Center Members, their benefits may not be applied to exceed the allotted number of guests included in the package price.

Are any birthday add-ons available?

We offer lunch options and IMAX ticket discounts for birthday parties. Cake and a liquid nitrogen ice cream demonstration can be added on to Package 1 for a small additional fee. Also inquire about our pizza and party-sub lunch packages!
