Mercer Slough offers programs throughout the year for teens in grades 6-12.
Environmental Science Pathways (Grades 6-8)
This weekly after-school program is for middle school students interested in environmental science and clean technology. During this 8-week series, students discover the science behind renewable energy, watersheds and our natural environment. We conduct hands-on experiments and projects in the field and in our state-of-the-art wetlab. Learn more
Environmental Science and Technology Practicum (Grades 9-12)
This 9-week program for high school students explores environmental science, clean technology and associated careers. Each session offers in-depth, hands-on aquatic and terrestrial research in the wetland and our state-of-the-art wetlab, as well as the opportunity to learn about careers and educational pathways from professionals in these fields. Lake Washington Watershed Internship (Grades 9-12)
The Lake Washington Watershed Internship is a year-long (September to June) internship that helps teens become informed environmental scientists and stewards of their local community through mentoring, hands-on learning, habitat restoration and stream monitoring. Learn more

This summer volunteer opportunity offers experience working with children in Pacific Science Center's Camps for Curious Minds program. Learn more
Summer Opportunity: Global Citizens, Local Science (Grades 9-12)
For a week in August, teens become citizen scientists and take on an environmental research project helping scientists from the University of Washington study the effects of climate change on our local environment. Teens work out of Mercer Slough for the first 3 days, then embark on an overnight trip to Mt. Rainier to conduct citizen science. Learn more

We can tailor our programs to meet the needs of your high school and middle school students. Our state-of-the-art wet ab and 320-acre Mercer Slough Nature Park provide an unparalleled opportunity to give students the tools to explore, study and be inspired by environmental chemistry and watershed science.
