Celebrating Betty’s Impact

Sep 9, 2020

Longtime Pacific Science Center supporter and emerita Board Member Elisabeth “Betty” Bottler left us on August 13, 2020 after 95 years. PacSci honors and remembers Betty for her contributions to the community, including more than 40 years supporting and helping steer the direction of PacSci through her service on the board and commitment to its mission.

Betty was first appointed to the PacSci board in 1976 and appointed a lifetime director (Director Emeritus) in 1995. Core to her support of PacSci was Betty’s belief that nothing leaves more of an impact than actually experiencing science and math through exhibits and events.

“It makes kids more aware, when they see different exhibits and things working and happening, Betty said. She particularly enjoyed PacSci events, remarking they draw “huge, diverse crowds,” bring communities together, and help provide opportunities people can’t find anywhere else.

Of her many meaningful contributions, she played an instrumental role in the revitalization of the plant life in the courtyard, including securing funds for the Pollinator Garden plant exhibitsHer passion for math drove a partnership with Explorations in Math to do Community Math and Science Nights at community centers, which she also personally helped fund

PacSci is extremely grateful for Betty’s decades-long support and dedication. She will be missed.
