At this weekend-long stay in Bend, Oregon, take advantage of first class education from the Pacific Science Center team, along with guest education from an array of experts. Learn about what makes this eclipse so remarkable; get training on what to look for during the event; and dig deeper with our team of astronomers. You will be joined by a team of Pacific Science Center educators, including Planetarium Supervisor, Dave Cuomo, and Pacific Science Center leaders including CEO and President, Will Daugherty.

Make the trip with Pacific Science Center and we will take care of everything for you. Enjoy a three night stay at the Riverhouse Hotel in Bend, Oregon. All meals provided between your arrival and your departure.

Saturday, August 19
Travel to Bend, Oregon, one of the Pacific Northwest’s premier destinations – situated in the High Desert of Central Oregon. There, you will meet us at our Eclipse Headquarters along the Deschutes River – the Riverhouse Hotel. Enjoy a welcome cocktail hour with your fellow eclipse enthusiasts. Meet and greet with our dynamic Pacific Science Center staff. And get acclimated to the upcoming days ahead.
Sunday, August 20
After breakfast at the Riverhouse, it’s a full day of exploration and curiosity. Get all of your burning questions answered in our workshop sessions. Learn how various cultures have thought of eclipse, about historically significant eclipse moments, and how scientists today study them. Join a Pacific Science Educator as we explore why we have eclipse and how it is possible to predict when and where they happen. After dinner, we’ll have a special session with NASA scientists from Lowell Observatory. Then it’s an early evening as we ready ourselves for the Total Solar Eclipse in the morning.
Monday, August 21
The big day! Get excited, because we’re loading up early to begin Eclipse Day. Travel on a chartered bus and relax as we take care of meals, space, and all the educational opportunities you’d like. You won’t have to deal with the crowd as we approach our private viewing area. We’ll reach Eclipse Central in Madras, Oregon and prepare for the big moment. Can you feel the anticipation? The sun begins to darken, the crowd cheers. With your sunoculars in hand, you won’t miss a second of the eclipse. At exactly 10:19 a.m., the eclipse will be in totality. Look around and it feels and looks like nighttime. Animals react to the “night” sky as if it were midnight. You can see stars visible just behind the sun. And did you have a question about something? Get your curiosity answered immediately by our team of experts, present the entire time. Want a closer look at the eclipse? Use one of our telescopes, fitted with special solar lenses. You’ll want to look at this natural wonder from every angle possible.
After the eclipse, we’ll wind down with some special guest lectures. During all of this time, you’ll have access to all of the amenities that Eclipse Central has to offer – food, video, places to relax, and vendors. We’ll head home and conclude our trip with a farewell.
Tuesday, August 22
Time to return home. You’ll make your way back to Seattle, extend your stay in Central Oregon, or whatever other plan you’d like.

  • Cost per Traveler: $3000. A portion of this cost represents a tax-deductible donation to Pacific Science Center in the amount of $1500. Cost does not include airfare. Cost based on double-occupancy hotel room.

Cost includes: Accommodations at Riverhouse Hotel in Bend, OR from Saturday check-in on August 20 to Tuesday morning check-out on August 22. All meals as indicated; charter bus to Madras, OR; sunoculars; expert guides and scientists.

Not included: Air transportation; personal items; taxi transportation to/from the hotel.
