Antimicrobial Resistance: Addressing the Global Threat
The World Health Organization estimates antimicrobial resistance will cause 10 million deaths worldwide by 2050 if no effective interventions are made. To address this issue, Dr. Sylvia Omulo of Washington State University’s Paul G. Allen School for Global Animal Health, has spent the last six years researching on antimicrobial resistance. Based in Kenya, Dr. Omulo is leading a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention-funded study to determine the prevalence of, and relationships between, antibiotic resistant organisms in the communities of Kibera and Asembo, and the hospitals serving them. Join Dr. Omulo for a close look at antimicrobial resistance in low- and middle-income countries and learn how challenges in Kenya can lead to interventions that can be used around the world.
