
Bridge to Innovation (Best for Grades K–2)
From telescopes to transportation, explore current science in the news and dive deeper into the basic STEM principles behind them. Join PacSci this December for live, interactive virtual programs to engage learners of all ages and spark curiosity in current STEM in our communities.
Washington state is home to some of the world’s longest floating bridges. Sound Transit is pushing the region’s innovative engineering even further with the world’s first floating bridge train track. Learn how engineers are connecting our community while working on your own challenge to design, build and test a bridge of your own.
For this optional hands-on design challenge, we recommend having the following materials available:
Basic crafting tools like tape, scissors, glue, paper, pens, or markers
At least three types of additional building materials such as: clean plastic or cardboard recyclables, pipe cleaners, popsicle sticks, bubble wrap, rubber bands, aluminum foil, clay, etc. Use or substitute any other items available that can be safely used for building!
5–10 Pennies or other coins or washers to be used as weights
Recommended Ages: Ages 5–7
