Calling BS: The Art of Skepticism in a Data-Driven World

Misinformation, disinformation, and fake news abound, it’s increasingly difficult to know what’s true. Our media environment has become hyperpartisan. Science is conducted by press release and we are currently living through the first pandemic in over 100 years with a presidential election rapidly approaching.
Learning how to be a skeptic in this age of misinformation is more important than ever. It’s up to us to analyze and evaluate the information available. While we may be able to spot “political speak” baloney, we’re not as well equipped to look at misinformation that is increasingly cloaked in math, science or statistics.
Join UW’s Carl Bergstrom, Professor of Biology, and Jevin West, Associate Professor at the Information School and Director of the Center for an Informed Public, as they give us a set of tools to cut through the most intimidating data.
