Event Details

Curiosity Expo (CX) is a science-filled weekend for the whole community, with hands-on activities led by local experts built around a single, inspiring theme. Included with general admission and free for Members.

For this installment of CX, blend the futurist dreams and reality as we explore the science behind SciFi. Activities and experiences include:

  • Clarion West: Join in the exquisite corpse group story exercise or cut out magazine images to build a story that’s out of this world (Saturday, Sunday)
  • Hyperspace: Be the first to try Expedition Titan, a cutting edge VR experience, while also helping and giving feedback to one of our Startups in Residence, Hyperspace (Saturday, Sunday; this is a ticketed experience with general admission)
  • Laser Dome: Journey into the upside down for a brilliant Laser Stranger Things light show (Saturday 1:30 p.m., Sunday 1:30 p.m.)
  • Liftport: Learn about the facts and fiction of Liftport’s Lunar Space Elevator. See the Infrastructure, which is a near-term development that can be built today (Saturday, Sunday)
  • Magic Leap: Experience mixed reality spatial computing on the Magic Leap One! Interact with digital content seamlessly integrated into your view of the real world (Saturday, Sunday)
  • Microsoft Hacking STEM: Make a bracelet with UV sensitive beads, then build a simple spectrometer to measure a variety of light sources (Saturday, Sunday)
  • PacSci:  Create a robot then challenge others to a sumo match to see who lasts the longest (Saturday, Sunday)
  • PacSci: Take part in a cooperative, SciFi story writing experience. Stop by, read where the story left off, and add your ideas to the board (Saturday, Sunday)
  • PacSci: Explore SciFi through art and comics. Create a creature or a cryptid during activities designed by our current and past Artists in Residence (Saturday, Sunday)
  • PacSci: Create your own STEAMpunk pin using metallic beads and computer parts (Saturday, Sunday)
  • PacSci: Create lightsabers while exploring the combination of gas and electricity and embracing your inner Jedi (Saturday, Sunday)
  • PacSci: Design future world and the animals that live there, while discovering how it has to adapt to its surroundings (Saturday, Sunday)
  • Peeka: Let books come to life through this VR experience from Peeka, one of our Startups in Residence (Saturday, Sunday)
  • Science Communication Fellowship Program: Explore SciFi with scientists and discuss SciFi movies, books, and games that have impacted them, and you, both personally and professionally. (Saturday, Sunday)
  • Seafood Products Association: Learn about the future of food including current research and development projects that are exploring alternative food products such as insect proteins and lab-grown meats (Saturday, Sunday)
  • Seattle Design Nerds: Help grow a space settlement and determine what is needed for the ongoing mission (Saturday only)
  • Terrapower: Discover cool nuclear technologies and invent new ideas that can be done with it (Saturday, Sunday)
  • UW Neuroscience Community Outreach: Be amazed by auditory and visual illusions! Make your own neurons and see the ways that the illusions and brain can trick you (Saturday, Sunday)
  • Wizards of the Coast: Talk about and play the Transformers Trading Card Game (Saturday only)
  • Young Space Scholars: Design and develop Mars colonies, use remote control rovers to navigate the terrain, and experiment with the uses of solar power in space (Saturday, Sunday)
