Snack Science: Follow the Food (Best for Grades K–2)

Discover the science behind some of your favorite snacks as we follow the journey of food from where it comes from, to where it goes if we don’t eat it all. Bring some of your favorite snack items to the program and experiment with mixing and measuring as we build our own snack mix. Then create your very own recipe card to share your special snack with family and friends.

For this program we recommend having the following materials ready:

  • Two or more snack items that can be combined into your own trail mix or snack mix
    • Note: if using a large snack item (such as an apple, granola bar, etc), please cut into smaller pieces ahead of time so the pieces can be measured and mixed with other snack items during the program
  • Measuring cups or spoons
  • Science notebook or piece of paper
  • Pencil or something to write with

Recommended Grades: K–2
