Welcome To Wellbody Academy
Welcome To Wellbody Academy
Welcome to Professor Wellbody’s Academy of Health & Wellness®, an exhibit dedicated to the life-long process of balancing exercise, diet, proper rest, and hygiene.
This two story, 7,000 square foot exhibit and program space is filled with immersive, hands-on inventions, gadgets, activities, and technologies that help guests understand the fundamentals of wellness.
Wellbody Academy is broken down into seven sections:
Wellbody Hall – Wellbody Hall is the first area you experience as you pass through the exhibition’s main entry. This is the central area of the Academy and features core educational content about behavior change.
Playdium – Enter the fitness area where you reconnect with the joy of play and learn about the importance of movement to your wellness.
Cafédium – Explore the nutrition area where guests learn about what your body needs from food and how to eat more healthily.
Slumbertorium – The sleep area is where you learn that proper sleep is vital and an often under-appreciated key to overall health and wellness.
Germnasium – Get grossed out in the hygiene area where you learn about how personal hygiene protects and promotes individual health as well as the health of others.
The Loft – Look into the future in The Loft and reflect on wellness over a lifetime.
The Studio – The Studio is a new program space showcasing current health-related research occurring in the Pacific Northwest. The featured theme and content in The Studio will change every six months, giving you an opportunity to learn about new advances in health research and the methods, challenges and opportunities associated with scientific innovation. In The Studio, you can hear visiting scientists discuss their research efforts in the health sciences and learn about the cutting-edge science that is advancing understanding about health and wellness. You also have the opportunity to explore health-related careers.
Greetings, Educators! Pacific Science Center is thrilled to partner with you to help children and families make healthier choices in daily life—a vital mission for all of us as our nation grapples with preventable diseases such as type 2 diabetes, obesity and chronic sleep deprivation.
Students will love visiting Professor Wellbody’s Academy of Health & Wellness, which uses playful activities to share important research and tips on health and wellness. Games and gee-whiz gadgets guide students through the process of setting their own wellness goals and identifying support networks and potential barriers. And, talk about hands-on, students can lather up, virtually, using fascinating interactive video technology recently developed to train health workers to properly wash their hands. It has increased hand-hygiene rates by 156% in hospitals, so imagine how it might reduce the transmission of sniffles and flu in your classroom.
More advanced students can check out The Studio, a dynamic space showcasing local scientists and cutting-edge research from laboratories and research institutions in the Pacific Northwest. Featured: Genetics (Dec. 2012–May 2013), Neuroscience (June 2013–Nov. 2013), Translating Research into Medicine (Dec. 2013–May 2014), Environment and Health (June 2014–Nov. 2014), and Cancer (Dec. 2014–May 2015).
To support your classroom teaching and Wellbody field trip, we’ve put together a free, downloadable educator guide. Teachers who submit survey results online will get a thank you in the form of four exhibit passes to Pacific Science Center to use with family or friends.
