Live Science Shows & Demonstrations

The Electron Demonstration

In this hair-raising live demonstration, the audience gets a close-up look at the neutral, repelling and attracting forces of atoms as they exchange electrons. The demonstrator explains it all with an amazing machine known as a Van de Graaff Generator, which can load up with a static electron charge that make hair stand on end or confetti fly through the air. Volunteers get a chance to make memories and act out the wild behavior of atoms and electrons to learn what makes them do what they do.

  • Length: 20 minutes
  • Audience: Grade 1 and up
