Google Field Trips: 10,000 Students

by | Oct 16, 2015

Under the arches, there’s nothing like the energy of field trips – especially Google Field Trip Days, that bring thousands of youngsters from resource=challenged schools to our exhibit halls. Thanks to renewed support from Google for four more field trip days, we’ll host more than 10,000 kids and chaperones at Pacific Science Center this school year, many who would not have visited due to financial barriers. They’ll experiment with our hands-on activities, explore personal health in Wellbody Academy, take in a Laser Show, experience metamorphosis in the Tropical Butterfly House, enjoy Live Science Stage Shows, design and test hypotheses in our Tinker Tank maker space and be nourished with tasty sack lunches. We’ve hosted 3,200 Google field trippers already and we’re thrilled to be able to reach out to even more underserved kids and schools through this program. Last year within the city of Seattle alone, there were 27 schools with a free- and reduced-price meal program rate of 70 percent or greater. The next field trips will target schools where more than 80 percent of the students receive free- and reduced-price lunch; an increased transportation budget will also enable us to reach communities beyond Seattle.
