PacSci-Doku: “Energy Solution”

By Dennis Schatz – Senior Advisor

Do you Sudoku? It’s one of the hottest number games around! Well, here’s a twist we think you’ll love. We call it PacSci-Doku. Can you guess why? Here’s how it works. Instead of filling in the blanks with numbers, we use letters. Hidden in one of the columns or rows is the answer to a science question. You’ll find information about the answer on the answer tab below.

The question in this edition is:

What off-shore facility are clean energy advocates looking forward to?

To find the answer, complete this PacSci-Doku using the following nine letters:

I  A  _  M  W  N  F  R  D

PacSci-Doku: Energy Solution

Puzzle Difficulty: Hard

The Answer

PacSci-Doku: Energy Solution

The question in this edition is:

What off-shore facility are clean energy advocates looking forward to?

The answer: Wind_Farm

Offshore wind farms are nothing new in Europe or China, but the first commercial offshore wind farm in the U.S. is now being built off the coast of Rhode Island. For clean energy advocates, it is a cause to rejoice, as there is much electricity that could be generated by the constant winds along the Atlantic Coast. The Rhode Island project will start modestly with only five turbines, but clean energy enthusiasts look to future expansion, such as the 130 turbine project proposed for Nantucket Sound. Read more about this new energy generation project, or listen to a recent NPR report on the wind farm construction.
