The Answer

The question in this edition is:

Spider venom may be the new environmentally safe ingredient in what substance that controls insect pests?

The answer: Pesticide

Researcher at Western Michigan University have isolated peptides from spider venom that are highly toxic to insect pests, but have little to no effect on mammals. The peptides break down easily, so there are no environmental impacts. The EPA recently cleared the venom-based pesticide for development into commercial products that can be used to kill insects directly or produce insect resistant plants.
