The Answer

The question in this edition is:

What medicine may revolutionize the treatment of cancer?

The answer: Biologics

Biologic medicines are made from living cells rather than being synthesized from chemicals like most drugs. Insulin, derived from animals, to treat diabetes is an early form of biologics and has existed for many years. New types of biologics, produced using recombinant DNA technology, can actually modify the individual cells of patients to better combat diseases like cancer. Learn more regarding biologic medicine, and make sure to visit the Life Sciences Research Weekend at Pacific Science Center. This will provide you with the opportunity to learn more about some of the latest medical research and technology.
