School is Out, Science is In!
Just because the school year is almost over doesn’t mean your child should stop learning. According to the National Summer Learning Association, most children experience significant learning loss over the summer, losing two months or more of grade level equivalency in math skills and reading achievement. That’s where PacSci comes in: our goal is to help your child combat summer learning loss by offering fun and informal learning experiences that will ignite their curiosity, drive them to ask questions and discover a love of learning that will last well into the following school year.
This summer, PacSci is proud to offer a variety of programs at our campus in Seattle, at Mercer Slough Environmental Education Center in Bellevue, and throughout the community, designed to engage children of all ages while they’re out of the classroom.
Science On Wheels in Your Library
As part of our mission to enable access to science education for all, our Science On Wheels outreach program will travel to libraries across Washington state, providing interactive STEM experiences ranging from live shows to hands-on exhibits. Science On Wheels works directly with public libraries in a combined effort to prevent the summer slide, which is especially important for children in low-income communities who may not have access to summer learning programs. Science On Wheels programs in libraries are free to the child, and include interactive activities, experiments and challenges for them to take on.
This summer, Science On Wheels is working with libraries in celebration of our Summer in Space, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Apollo Moon Landing. Children can expect an astronomically fun day as they become astronauts-in-training, investigate the moon, and even climb into our portable planetariums for a live journey through our galaxy.
Check your local library’s event calendar to see when Science On Wheels will be near you!
New! Summer Science Club
Children of all ages are invited to spend their summer vacation at Pacific Science Center as part of our free Summer Science Club. We’ll keep your child’s brain engaged all summer long with special exhibits, activities, events and take-home experiments – and they can collect prizes as they learn! Sign up for the Summer Science Club online or during your next visit to PacSci to receive a special Science Club badge and magnifying glass.
