Thankful For Our Volunteers

Interns from our Lake Washington Watershed Internship Program, LWWIP for short.

On a day where we give thanks, Pacific Science Center would like to extend a big “Thank You” to our volunteers. Without your hard work, the Science Center wouldn’t be able to serve nearly 1 million people a year.

A Special Message for All of Our Volunteers

We rely on our hundreds of volunteers who give thousands of hours to help achieve our mission to ignite curiosity in every child and fuel a passion for discovery, experimentation, and critical thinking in all of us. Our regular volunteers who come in to help at least twice a month are involved in almost every area of Pacific Science Center and Mercer Slough Environmental Education Center, from Guest Services and Interpretation to Development and Data Collection. In addition, we have service-learning college student volunteers we host every quarter; corporate groups like Gates Foundation, Microsoft, and Expedia who come to help us out with labor-intensive projects; Curiosity Days and Special Event volunteers; teen volunteers and student interns; and our skills-based professionals who assist with specific projects.

When I think of all of these volunteers I think of the time, talent and joy that they give. During their time with us volunteers bring their expertise and passion for learning and exploration to everything they do. “Thanks” is such a small word, but it is one that the staff at Pacific Science Center feels in abundance X we are truly grateful to each and every one of our volunteers for their commitment. Thank you all!

Here are some messages of gratitude from staff around the Science Center:

Thank you to our amazing Science Communication Fellows! Your effort to bring your research to our guests is essential to the work Pacific Science Center aims to accomplish, and your continuing commitment to public engagement with science is deeply appreciated by all of us here.

Tony Smith and Liz McCullough

I would like to thank all of our LWWIP interns for being amazing, passionate, curious, exceptional, and dedicated people. Does getting up before 8 a.m. on a Saturday to go stand out in the rain for a few hours sound fun? These 26 high-schoolers (pictured above) do just that, with smiles all around.

Ian Schooley

Our volunteers come from a multitude of backgrounds and experiences – they share their knowledge and their enthusiasm with our guests every day. Volunteers make Pacific Science Center a community. They inspire me daily with their dedication, effort and love for what they do. Thank you to each and every volunteer!

Matt Eaton

Thank you for continually offering such an amazing experience for our guests. The smiles I see on kids’ faces, meaningful conversations, and new memories formed are all because of the energy and enthusiasm you bring. Special thank you to everyone working tirelessly behind the scenes supporting us in countless ways!

Daniel Rother

Our STEM-Ed volunteer interns enrich our summer Out of School Time programming. We are grateful for their initiative in taking on teaching right from the start and mentoring teen interns. They bring great energy and enthusiasm for working with kids and provide useful feedback to improve our workshops. Thank you!
