Volunteering or working at Pacific Science Center is both an unique opportunity and an important part of our operations. We interviewed one of our Field Trip Ambassador volunteers, Sujitha “Suju” Rajaram, to learn what makes volunteering at Pacific Science Center so rewarding.

How long have you been volunteering with Pacific Science Center?

Since last November.

Why did you decide to volunteer?

I used to work as a teacher in my home country and I loved coming here to the Science Center. It always looks so beautiful, that you can’t help but fall in love with the campus. Science has always been so interesting to me and the Science Center has a way of making it so engaging by bringing it to life. I also love new meeting people, which is one of the reasons I volunteered here, it’s such a great place to meet new people.

What do you do at Pacific Science Center? What is a regular day here for you?

I’m a Field Trip Ambassador and I greet school groups to the Science Center, welcome them, and help them get a great start to their day by setting a tone for fun and learning while they are visiting.

What is your favorite thing or place at Pacific Science Center?

I like the Memory: Fragrant Flashbacks exhibit. When I saw the exhibit for the first time, I was really excited about the research and hands-on activities in it. For example, there is a smell machine where you can create different kinds of smells and it’s really fun!

Is there something that has truly, inspired, impress or made you see things differently?

It’s very nice to meet new people. Since I’m not originally from the Seattle-area, I want to meet and talk with new people but my accent can sometimes seems funny to others or they might not understand – I also might not understand, but because of my volunteering, this insecurity has been slowly changing and I’ve begun to feel more confident because everyone here is so nice and supportive.

Have you met someone that’s truly inspired you here?

I’ve made a lot of friends while volunteering here that have inspired me.
